Okay, so everyone should go out and read this book, because it truly is something everyone will love. And when I say everyone, I mean boys, too. WAITING TO SCORE has an intense, thoughtful, multi-layered (and *cough* hot *cough*) main character (that’d be Zack Chase) who deals with competition and school and girls and family strife in a realistically flawed way that transcends sports books or romance books or even YA books to become just a really good story.
About WAITING TO SCORE
Zack Chase, new in town, gets a crash course in the dangerous, fast-paced lives of local teen athletes. A good-looking, book-loving hockey star, Zack’s also expected to be a womanizing, alcohol-abusing party animal, but it’s not who he is. As jealous, obnoxious team captain Mac hounds him, Zack falls for Goth-girl Jane and befriends her teammate brother, both with their own secrets. Tragedy strikes and affects them all in this true-to-life debut novel, giving readers an insight into the lives of high school students and athletes.
J.E.’s 2009 Debut Party
Having already read WAITING TO SCORE, I’ve been to a few parties with Zack and let me tell you, you’re in for some fun. And drama. But drama’s fun, too, right? Especially when there’s a cute boy involved. 😉 Which reminds me… Zack is the first boy we’ve debuted here! *Hiiiii Zaaack!*
The Guest List
Zack is happy to invite his friends from Waiting To Score. Don’t tell him they’re fictional, I’d prefer he doesn’t know.
Um, excuse me? All those cute hockey boys are fictional?
*facepalm*
The Party
Zack is pretty tired of usual teen fare in his world. Underage drinking and kids throwing up in the bushes. I think he’d chose a Laser Tag party. All his friends and family will have a few rounds of Laser tags, act like kids, let loose, get out their competitive pheromones. Afterwards they’ll have pizza and hang out.
Yeah, those usual parties get lame fast, especially the watching-people-throw-up part. Laser Tag sounds way more fun!
The Guest of Honor: Zack
Zack is rockin’ a pair of jeans and an ironic t-shirt with his fave Converse sneakers. His theme song? Highway to Hell. But it’s ironic, just like his t-shirt. Zack has a quirky sense of humor.
J.E.’s Advice for Zack on His Big Debut
Hold the door for Jane. She pretends she doesn’t like your good manners, but she does.
WAITING TO SCORE is available in book stores now, and also online through Indiebound and other Web retailers.
J.E.’s path to becoming an author was a windy one. After college, she wrote advertising copy for radio and then television and eventually moved on to work in sales and marketing for too many years.
After having a son, J.E. followed her dreams and wrote her first book. Once she started writing YA, she felt like she’d found her home and has been writing it ever since. J.E. lives near the Canadian Rockies with her husband and son and a new puppy named Meeko. She does not live in an Igloo or play hockey, but she does love maple syrup and says “eh” a lot.
