  10. Hilary Sinclair says:

    Dear Sarah,

I don’t think there has ever been a book that i couldn’t put down until yesterday. I went to a shoping center around where I live, and my sister and I stopped at a book store. I’m not a big reader, but i thought it would be fun to have a late night book to read, and thats when I stumbled upon your book “Twenty Boy Summer”. It looked very interesting and when I read the description, I decided to buy it. At first the cover was just seaglass in the shape of a heart, no big deal, right? Well I started to read it and in only the second chapter, I was crying. So, I stayed up late last night, reading every page carefully and imagining myself actually in the story, an “envisionation” as Frankie would say. I have only read to chapter nine, and I am in love with this book. I was so happy that I purchased this one, this book that finally shows love, secrets, loss, letting go, remembering, and new beginings all into one page by page adventure. Listen to me, haha, I’m not even half way through the book and im praising it. I even figured out the meaning of the cover, I think.

with love for your writing now and forever,
    Hilary Sinclair

  19. I was at the LA SCBWI conference this past August. Jennifer Hunt mentioned your novel during one of the sessions. That evening, I rushed over to the Barnes & Noble store (a two minute walk from the hotel) and bought your book (I even told Jennifer that in the elevator). I loved it, and can’t wait for your next one.

  20. Sarah Ockler says:

Thank you all so much for your amazing feedback! I’m so glad you enjoyed Twenty Boy Summer!

  21. Shahrazad says:

    Dear Sarah,
I saw your book at a bookstore, and I had no money that day, so I was not able to buy it. I also had no time to read some. It bothered me,so I wanted to find out more, so I found your site. I just read the expert, and might I say I am not easily upset. I read the expert, and I was crying. My sister came and asked me what was wrong. She’s only five, and I don’t think she got it. ;) I can’t wait for my next allowance. (Any body wanna drive me to the bookstore?!?)If I become an author like I want, I really hope I can write as beautifully as you. I hope to see more too!!! -Shahrazad El Sebaei (If you want a really crazy book, google one thousand and one arabian nights)

  22. Samantha says:

I got 20 Boy Summer on weekend afternoon while shopping with my mom. I started to read it a few days later, then I finished it within 2 days. I read in class while everyone else worked on homework when our teacher gave us time to do it in class. I was actually kind of disappointed when I finished the book because…..I LOVED IT SOOO MUCH!!!! I loved the plot and how there was just this one badass rebellion friend who was trying to her her friend to have some fun. I thought it was very cool when Anna FINALLY “had some fun.” Personally, This is one of the best books i have ever read. :)

  23. Ellen says:

  42. Thank you for standing up for these wonderful books and bringing the censorship battle to light yet again. If more people actually READ the entire book(s) instead of picking out the “questionable” parts, there would be a lot less to grouse about. As a fellow writer and lover of books for young people, we need to continue to address the issues that adolescents come up against every day. How else will they learn to accept others, see themselves as valuable and realize there is help for the problems they face. Thanks for this much needed dialogue.

  43. Tiffany says:

Hello Sara. Have just read some of your comments regarding Dr. Scroggins from Republic. I live in Republic and have a child in school there. Please contact me asap. I would love to chat with you on this issue. Thanks you!

  44. Brandon Bond says:

I have been actively fighting Scroggins since he thrust himself on to the public stage. Our documentary is gaining momentum; here is an article in the News-Leader http://www.news-leader.com/article/20101001/NEWS01/10010356/1007/Proponent-of-ban-gets-attention-from-local-filmmakers.

  45. Brandon Bond says:

We also have a rough cut of our interview: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=CAztLvtgmqs It takes a while to get it started because he was on the phone, and this is pre-editing.

  46. Rachel says:

I am half way through your book and i love it! I also think it is completely ridiculous that a school is thinking of banning it! At are school it is an 8th grade only book which means if your below 8th grade you need a slip to read it but U think that to is ridiculous and your book is awesome!

  47. Diane says:

    Hi Sarah!
Twenty Boy Summer made me cry from the beginning to the end. It truly is a wonderful book. I can relate to the book because my bestfriend died in a car accident and I knew how Frankie felt. I love how everything falls together in the end and the romance in the book. I was wondering if you could do a second book of Twenty Boy Summer, like a book about Sam and Anna, instead of Matt this time. It just got me wondering what happened to Sam and Anna in the end. Are they still together? Are they still talking?

Well thank you so much, this book is truly amazing.

  48. Rachel says:

    Hi Sarah!
20 boy Summer is one of my all time favorite books.Im postive that a sequal would definitly get everyone exited :)

I live in a small town, and had to travel out of town to get the book. I can’t wait to be able to do it again for Fixing Delilah Hannaford. I have to wait until spring to get travel again… but it will be worth it.
