Thanks to all of you who participated in the Connecting with YA Authors Online survey! With 246 responses, you guys have given us lots to think about! Your feedback will directly help me and other young adult authors develop our sites and social network pages to best meet reader needs.
The most surprising finding? Two things, actually:
- Most of you aren’t that interested in downloading extras like wallpaper, flair, screen savers or other book-related glitz.
- More than half of you (53%) would prefer to get book and author information from an author’s Web site or blog directly, rather than interacting with authors on social network sites. 45% of you liked the idea of getting some info on an author’s site, but also wanted to interact with authors on social sites. I thought more people would vote for the author site / social site combo.
Not so surprising — Twitter adoption is still not super high (less than 50% of respondents), and only a small percentage access the Web through mobile devices (less than 15%). Not too many vloggers, either (around 3%, but I predict that will grow).
If anyone would like more details about the survey results, drop a note or question in the comments and I can respond in a follow up post.
Now, on to the fun stuff. Out of 225 people entering in the drawing for the $25 bookstore gift card, the winner is…
Lisa May from Look at That Book!
Congratulations, Lisa May, and thanks again to everyone for sharing your Web ideas!

CONGRATS!!!
Us bloggers liekto keep in touch with authors. makes them seem more human i think.
Anyways, great info! THANKS
Twitters? Vlogers? I still haven’t sent my first text message!!
I’m actually surprised about twitter. I for one love stalking authors on twitter. It is like the are my friends or something. I guess I’m just weird!
Twitter is THE BEST. People are crazy.
I just started Twittering last week! It’s been pretty fun so far. I can’t wait to see the video you’re boing to make for reaching a certain number of entrants. You ARE making the video, right??? : )
Haha I too love Twitter – there aren’t many authors that follow me also (thanks for being one of them!) but I love following the authors, and especially getting to talk to the ones who follow me too.
Also: would love more info on the survey results. So interesting!
